Built cultural environment
As museum with regional responsibility, Vaasa City Museums / Ostrobothnian Museum in collaboration with the Finnish Heritage Agency are responsible for the expert and official duties on the protection of cultural environment in the province of Ostrobothnia. The Finnish Heritage Agency is responsible for the properties protected by the Act on the Protection of the Built Heritage and Church Act, as well as state-owned properties.
The building researcher issues opinions, for example, on building permit applications and land-use planning, as well as instructs, advises and guides on the preservation of historic buildings and sites in Ostrobothnia. Instructions for repairs can be found, for example, in the Finnish Heritage Agency’s repair register (in Finnish).
The building researcher advises on issues related to building heritage renovation grants and monitors the use of grants from the Finnish Heritage Agency and the Finnish Local Heritage Federation. In addition, the building researcher is involved in various local cultural environment projects and records information on cultural environments.
