Vaasa City Museums’ exhibitions in 2020
Altogether 14 temporary exhibitions will open in Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art, Ostrobothnian Museum, Tikanoja Art Museum and Vaasa City Art Gallery in 2020. The Kuntsi Foundation celebrates its 50th anniversary with a summer exhibition and the Emil Aaltonen Collection will visit from Tampere.
In the exhibition By Nature at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art nine artists will ponder the aspects of nature and character, reflecting on the surrounding region. The Ostrobothnian Museum will host a solo exhibition History and Utopia of Landscape by Petri Ala-Maunus.
Year 2020 will also start a new collaboration with Kiasma, National Gallery of Finland. A little piece of Venice will travel to Vaasa as the exhibition Weather Report: Forecasting Future, curated by Kiasma to the Nordic Pavillion in 2019 Venice Biennale, will be exhibited at Kuntsi Museum of Modern Art.
The Ostrobothnian Museum’s exhibition At the Summer House will examine the phenomenon of spending the summer months in the countryside or archipelago. The traditions arrived to Finland from Sweden in the late 18th century and was widely popularised during the 20th century. At Tikanoja Art Museum performing and visual arts will meet in the exhibition At the Stage.
Vaasa’s (art) collectors from Antell to Swanljung and their impact on the city’s cultural life will be presented in the exhibition Visiting the Collector.
Five new exhibitions will be seen in the Vaasa City Art Gallery, all chosen through an open call. Artists’ collective Filmsverkstaden will celebrate its 10th anniversary. In addition, the programme includes solo exhibitions by Jan-Erik Andersson, Christian Langenskiöld, Anu Raatikainen and Visa Knuuttila.
Nelin-Cronström’s Home of Art, earlier situated on Vaasa’s Rantakatu, can be visited again in a web exhibition.
