A mobile tour
A mobile guide On a Ride with Frits – a Mobile Tour in Vaasa in the early 1900s leads the listener through the centre of Vaasa and its surroundings, revealing secrets of the city’s history. This free service functions as a tracking application in a smart phone or in other mobile appliances, and it has been developed as part of the project The museum without walls by the Finnish Museums Association.
The theme of the tour is Vaasa during Commercial Counsellor Frithjof Tikanoja’s (1877–1964) time. Historical facts are combined with fictional radio play-like scenes by means of drama and archive materials. The scenes illuminate Tikanoja’s life from his early years in Vaasa through the turbulence of business life to the awakening of his interest in art in the first half of the 20th century.
The narrator in the mobile guide is Frithjof Tikanoja’s trusted chauffeur, Yrjö Sorvari, who guides the listener through the streets of the city. The mobile tour covers eight locations, either buildings or sites of former buildings that have a link to Tikanoja’s life in Vaasa. These locations are: the Tikanoja Art Museum, Tiklas, the suit and shirt factory in Kauppapuistikko Street, Hotel Ernst in Kirkkopuistikko Street, Mynt’s house in Koulukatu Street, Hotel Central and the former business premises in Hovioikeudenpuistikko Street, the marketplace of Vaasa and theTiklas Park.
The application can be downloaded free of charge from the website: frits.citynomadi.com.
