Artworks for the historical places in Vähäkyrö
The Vähäkyrö Culture Circle highlights the historical sites of the place in a new way by attaching artworks to them. The aim is to emphasize the local identity and attract visitors to the area. The historical sites from Vähäkyrö date from the Iron Age, through the Viking Age up to the Middle Ages and from the Crimean War until the turn of the last century.
Ten works will be on display from 14th of May onwards. This is a gradually expanding entity where the artworks and the environment meet and it consists of environmental art, community art, sculptures, paintings and installations. The works include e.g. tinplate, giant feet, historical figures and natural materials. The works are placed in the Vähäkyrö Kirkonmäki area, Kirkkosaari recreation area, on the Vähäkyrö pharmacy premises and in Tervajoki Autohuolto Oy / IKH’s store. Some of the works will remain in Vähäkyrö permanently; some are on display for a limited period.
The works are realized by the students of Kankaanpää Art School from Satakunta University of Applied Sciences. The Vähäkyrö Culture Circle has been funded by the Ministry of the Environment’s Sustainable City programme. Vaasa City Museums has been involved in the project by providing information about Vähäkyrö local history and documenting the artworks.
